Jade Buddha for Universal Peace visiting An Lac Mission in 2011
The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace is a monumental statue sculpted from one of the largest gem-quality jade stones. It is a powerful symbol of peace, harmony, and compassion and has been showcased internationally to inspire individuals from diverse backgrounds to embrace mindfulness and advocate for global peace. This global pilgrimage, led by Ian Green, was designed to elevate awareness of inner tranquility and create a more harmonious and compassionate world.
On February 13, 2011, An Lac Mission held an Opening Ceremony to welcome the Jade Buddha and to pray for world peace and happiness. During the ceremony, An Lac Mission’s Abbott, Thich Thong Hai, spoke about the world's insecurities, like natural disasters (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, droughts, floods) and man-made disasters (terrorism, war, hunger, poverty, disease). He mentioned that even though people always want peace, they also cause problems for themselves and others, harming the environment and releasing toxic gases. However, he highlighted that the Jade Buddha represents wisdom and compassion, making it a symbol of peace recognized by the United Nations over ten years ago.
After the closing ceremony, the Jade Buddha statue and its team arrived at their next destination. Today, An Lac Mission features a replica of the Jade Buddha to continue sharing prayers for peace, compassion, and unity. This symbolic reminder encourages our community and visitors to focus on inner peace and mindfulness. An Lac Mission hopes to inspire individuals to carry the message of universal peace and compassion to all.
